I wanted to try applique quilts and began with the sunflower and poppy pattern from Toni Whitney Design. I loved the intricate details an how the subtle changes in colour and print helped create the finished picture. It was great fun and an excellent way to use up fabrics in my stash. I loved the flowers series so much and did the Great Blue Heron, also from Toni Whitney Designs. Following these first projects I discovered McKenna Ryan Pine Needles Designs.
They have a ton of fun and whimsical designs that allowed me to indulge my grandson with seasonal wall hangings. First was the Halloween collection and then the Christmas collage. In the midst of these I did a number of other seasonal appliques as gifts to family and friends. A wall hanging with various birdhouses was an opportunity to indulgence myself, the pattern is called “Home Tweet Home”.
To top all this off I created my own design as a floor mat neighborhood also for my Grandson. This was a true labor of love and I created and named the streets in his neighborhood. I combined applique with printed iron-on transfers in order to embellish the piece further. I finished it off with a number of toy cars and trucks. Lots of fun for me and for him!
